Can PR save Parliament?

Parliament is facing a crisis with the revelation that many MP’s have been using public funds to finance a lifestyle many of their electorates can not afford.  This centuries old institution is now standing on shaky grounds, the public is calling for “the heads” of the scandalous MPs and the Queen is not amused.

According to the Chartered Institution of Public Relations, “Public relations is about reputation - the result of what you do, what you say and what others say about you.” http://www.cipr.co.uk/direct/careers.asp?v1=whatis. 18.05.2009.

So can PR save Parliament?  In it’s present state, certainly not!  Public relations is about honesty and integrity.  All the spin doctors could not save it.

The crisis is that this honourable institution has been tarnished, and from a PR point of view, to bring back the shine, first the rotten apples have to be removed from the barrel and be replaced with people of integrity and honour, new rules be made and above all, those who have not abused the system, be named and commended.  This is where PR can help.  Public relations is about doing good, and being seen doing good.
