The Queen's English - Speaking well, an investment in the future
Lucy Neville-Rolfe, director of corporate and legal affairs at TESCO recently shared her disappointment with the calibre of students leaving school, and one of the areas that needs to be addressed is language skills. London, is a melting pot of a variety of languages and accents and people from all over the world are making the United Kingdom their home.
This has resulted in some cases, the mispronunciation of words or accent distortion, due to the influence of their respective mother tongue.
In an effort to help children and young people between the ages of five to 18 with accent reduction and speech difficulties, Mrs. Sedgebeer, Managing Partner of Executive Language Tutors has launched two Little Voices Acting and Performance Academies based in Brixton and Sydenham, south London to help the community in their language skills. Little Voices Academy, Brixton will be launched on February 15, 2011. The programme has been developed for young people from the ages of five to 18 and utilizes acting and physical speech dexterity exercises in a fun manner. Those who have seen the King’s Speech will understand some of the techniques used.
